Weekend
If you don't know who or what someone or something is, click the little [?] next to his/her/its name.

Yesterday Ashley [?] and I had an afternoon about town with Shanti [?]. It was fun because we went to Georgetown and so we got away from all the tourists a bit. We went to H & M, then through another mall a little bit, then to the Georgetown Bagelry, which has a blown-up Washington Post page declaring it the "top of the heap," a title to which I will happily attest. I had two myself, and an Orangina, and the three of us sat at the counter and peoplewatched. Ashley's mom had gotten her roommate information for next year in the mail, so she spent the time on the phone pressing for details while Shanti and I chatted. Phone complaints notwithstanding, I really like her a lot. Both of them, actually. Great luck.

After we finished our food we sat on our stools like lumps for fifteen minutes or so, digesting allllll that bread, then we went to... Haagen-dazs! But I actually preferred the Ben & Jerry's across the stree, so I went there instead, and on my way back over to sit with A & S, a car with two young women in it rolled down the window and leaned out to ask me directions... and I gave them to them, correctly! I felt like a local.

Of course, the directions I gave them were to the H & M down the street where I had been twice in the last two hours, but who's looking for details?

After that the three of us had a good hike to the Metro, and we saw a motorcade on the way, and talked about how stupid it is to try to be more secure by drawing huge amounts of attention to yourself. Same thing with the Pentagon; it's sort of a sitting duck. A sitting duck with five sides and a lot of windows. Honestly, I had no idea how huge that thing was. I pass it every day on my way to work and it astounds me every time. I can only hope that the degree of a nation's safety is directly proportional to the size of its defense building, but I think I have my doubts.

Today Ashley and I didn't get up until 12:30. I guess all that walking wore us out. I think we're going to just sit around and unwind from the week, watching TV, reading National Geographic, and eating idly. I'll probably do my laundry, too. Thrills! Chills!

Oh, eating, that reminds me. Yesterday morning Miss Mary [?] made us breakfast, and it was breakfast. Boca sausage for me, bacon for the others, abnormally large biscuits, and grits. Southern hospitality.
